What Successful People Do Differently

Someone once said you are poor if all you have is money. Such a poignant statement! Many people usually ascribe success to mean being rich in money or material things like houses, luxurious cars, jewelry, the whole enchiladas. While material things are good ways of ensuring your security or safety, riches are not what one could actually describe as being successful. Although, riches can be use to attain success.

The good thing about success is that it is a journey and not a destination.

"So, what are those thing I need to do to be successful?" You may ask. Follow therefore as I delve into what I think are the ideal recipe for success:

1. Sleep and rest: successful people have hacked rest and sleep. They understand the need that rest and sleep play in a person's life. And that is why most successful people are regarded as morning people. They take advantage of the early serenity to organise their day-in thought and in action. If they like food, just know that breakfast is one of the actions (or thoughts). Food and rest; a perfect combination for a successful day.

2. Health is wealth: You must have heard the sayings at different point in time that "health is wealth". What is the essence of your wealth if your health is weak? If you want to be successful, then it is time you start caring for your health, both physically and spiritually. What healthy activity have you taken interest in lately? Have you checked your blood pressure? What food should you begin to cut-off or reduce? There is a reason health and wealth are closely rhymed.

3. Continuous Learning: You know how you need to upgrade your app or software to make it optimal? That's right. You need to do that for yourself as well to perform optimally in your personal and professional life. Stop limiting yourself to "this who I am". No, my dear, you can be better. Successful people are constantly learning, it could be through taking short courses, joining a book club, reading books that interest you, self introspection, getting a mentor, learning to make a meal and other things that keep your brain active. You do not have to join the bandwagon to follow what others are doing. The fact that you have a basic understanding -not necessarily the skill or knowledge- shows that you are open to learning new things. Think of something you like and start from there. The only reason you should not be learning is if you are dead!

4. The 80/20 rule: You must have heard about the 80/20 rule. It is simply states that 80% outcome is as a result of 20% causes. The 80/20 rule can be applied to every aspect of human endeavour. As such, this principle helps you to prioritise- successful people know this. Whether you are working as an individual or in a group, know the value of priority.

5. Connect with people: Humans crave relationship and that is our nature. The earlier we understand it, the better for us. It is against this backdrop that successful people are able to succeed. They understand the power of connection or networking. That is not to say that connecting with people has to do with what you will gain from them. Some people are of the opinion that if they are not gaining something-mostly transactional- then some persons cannot be their friends.

Find people with with mutual feelings or interest and make meaningful connections with them. They do not have to be in the same professional or religious circle as you. That they are genuine, have values and respect boundaries are some of the traits you could start with. Connecting with people -including your family members- help create a meaning in your life.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this piece of mine. Know that you do not have to start doing everything at once. You can pick one on the list and start from there.

Is there something else you would add to this list? I'll like to read from you. Please, would you share your thoughts with me? I'll see you in the comment section.

How is April going for you? It was my birthday on the 6th of April, and I did some fun-relaxing-cheat activities. I might come around to tell you what I did. Haha!

Take care lovelies.
